David Newton Staley

AUGUST 11, 1944 – JUNE 9, 2020

Dave Staley Aug. 11, 1944 – June 9, 2020 Dave died peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Coeur d’Alene, ID to Ernest and Mamie Belle Staley, his family moved to Lincoln, CA where he graduated from Lincoln H.S. in 1962. He moved to Portland, OR shortly after graduation, attending Warner Pacific College for two years before joining the Army Reserve for six years. He married his wife Melody in 1969 and raised two daughters, Jennifer & Rebecca. He spent 30 years managing the Kienow’s Grocery Store in NE Portland. During that time he and Melody also opened A.Jay’s Baby Shoppe. In retirement, he worked as a guest attendant at the Moda Center.

Dave was an avid reader, quite a rock hound, and loved spending time in his yard, perfecting the landscape and incorporating unique rocks into the design. A people person at heart, Dave easily connected with others. His infectious laugh will be missed by all.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry Staley. He is survived by his wife, Melody Staley, his children Jennifer Staley, Rebecca Edwards, son-in-law, Guy Edwards, and granddaughter Olivia, the light of his life for the past 12 years, his brothers and sisters, Ernest Staley (Betty), Lee Staley (Rick), Leah Staley, Rose Bliss (Dave) and several nieces and nephews.
